Christ, Coffee, and Cornfields

  This morning, I was thinking about one of the Gospel readings this week that talked about separating sheep from goats because of what they did for others during their life. Today's first reading discusses how our eternal destination is not determined by whether or not the good we've done outweighs the bad. It's a matter of if you turn away from evil and seek good. It's determined on if you follow Jesus with both your words and your works, or if you turn away from those things. Jesus saved us, and by His Grace the doors of Heaven are opened to us, but we make the choice of if we get to walk through the pearly gates. Luckily, the Lord basically spells out what we need to do. One of the resources He gives us are the Corporal Works of Mercy.   All of the Corporal Works of Mercy have to do with the body.   Lots of people use “YOLO” as an excuse to party, get drunk, and hook up. Those aren’t good reasons to use YOLO. Think about it; we do only live once, but after that you will get judged by our Creator on how we lived. We got put on this earth to glorify God, being made in His image. God doesn’t get drunk, lie, steal, cheat, backstab, or hook up. So why does our culture say it’s okay? Fact is, that stuff isn’t okay. If you died today, where would you go? 2 choices—Heaven or Hell. You choose your destination. Don’t believe me? Read the Bible. Say you’re a hung over 17 year old who gets shot and killed. When you go to talk to the Big Man Upstairs, what’re you going to say to Him? “Come on, God. I was just having some fun. YOLO?” And give Him your best smile and wink.
